Why Adolphus?
I have been frequently asked why I named the company Adolphus Consulting. Honestly, it may seem a little silly. You see, I like wolves. Not the stereotypical lone wolf, but real wolves. As you probably know, wolves are pack animals. They live as a unit. Sure, there’s an alpha male – the proverbial leader of the pack. But he depends on his brothers and sisters to live. He only guides the pack.
So, with the miracle of Google, I looked for a cool name associated with wolves. My initial search came back with a few possibilities. I latched onto one – Noble Wolf. Unfortunately, the German translation was “Adolf.” I scratched that off the list for some hopefully obvious historical reasons. But, there was a Greek approximation – Adolphus.
So, there you have it. Noble Wolf. I like it because it embodies what I want to accomplish with the company. Articulating values (noble ideals), developing leaders (alphas), and strengthening teams (packs).
The interesting thing is that the more I help people help themselves become better leaders, better teammates, and better employees, the better it makes me. I learn more from people, I think, than they learn from me.
That makes this work so rewarding for me and something I truly enjoy.
